To find the mark you need on a final exam to hit a target overall grade, you work backwards from the weightings. If your coursework is worth 60% and you have averaged a certain mark, and the final is worth the remaining 40%, the calculator above solves for the score the final must earn to reach your target. Weightings are everything. A high mark on a small-weighted assignment moves your overall grade far less than the same mark on a heavily-weighted final. Always work with the percentage each component contributes, not the raw scores, because a 90% on something worth 10% adds only 9 points to your weighted total.
Reality-check the number. Sometimes the maths shows the target is out of reach (a required score above 100%) or already locked in (even a zero still passes). Knowing which situation you are in changes how you spend your remaining study time, focusing effort where it can actually change the outcome.
