Counting the days until a date

Counting down to a date is just the number of days between today and the target, but there are two ways to count. The calendar-day count includes every day; the working-day count excludes weekends (and often public holidays), which matters for deadlines, notice periods and delivery estimates. The calculator above gives the total days to any future date, and you can use it for events, deadlines or anniversaries.

Inclusive or exclusive. A common source of confusion is whether to count the start and end days. "Three days from Monday" can mean Thursday (counting forward three) or Wednesday (Monday plus three days of activity), so agree the convention when it matters, such as contract or return-by dates.

Beyond the countdown. The same date maths tells you the day of the week a future date falls on, how many weekends are left before a deadline, or how long ago something happened. For planning, counting the working days rather than calendar days gives a far more realistic picture of the time you actually have.
